Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Ascension School Community! In the Fall of 1912, the School of the Ascension opened its doors to the children of this community for the first time. This year, we welcome our 100th group of children here at Ascension! Looking back, we could not be more pleased by the accomplishments of our many distinguished alumni. Yet, our foremost commitment is to the education and spiritual formation of the children in our care today! We have a proud history, a strong presence, and a very promising future.
As the School of the Ascension continues its journey into a new century, we recognize that the mission of Catholic Schools is as important now as it ever has been. Our schools must continue to be a place where children can grow in knowledge and virtue, in the Light of Faith. We must continue to provide an educational experience that prepares our students not only for the next steps on their academic journey, but to live a joyful life, guided by Jesus’ teachings and rooted in the communal celebrations of the Church.
Even in these challenging times, Ascension is growing so that we can continue to carry out our mission to provide for the growth of our children in mind, body, and spirit. We are happy to be reopening our 2nd Kindergarten class to accomodate the high demand for great Early Childhood education in this community. We are building a new science lab and partnering with the science department at Barnard College to keep our students on the cutting edge of STEM education. We are incorporating the new Common Core State Standards into our curriculum to promote college and career readiness for all of our students.
We invite you to explore our online community here. Our goal is to provide practical resources to our current families, pertinent information to our potential families, and a place for our valued alumni to keep in contact from all corners of the world. Thanks for stopping by!
Sincerely,
Mr. Chris McMahon
