MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Parent-Teacher Advisory Board (P-TAB) is to improve the overall educational experience of Ascension School students by strengthening the communication between the school and families, enhancing collaboration between teachers and families, initiating and supporting interactions between upper and lower school students and families, and enhancing the extra-curricular and non-academic activities offered at the school.

P-TAB pursues this mission by serving as the conduit between the families and friends of Ascension School and its Principal.  As such, P-TAB is a forum in which parents and community members may voice their suggestions and concerns.  The parents and teachers of P-TAB work with those who voice ideas to design possible approaches and resolutions.  These designs are brought to the Principal for his or her appraisal.

P-TAB is an advisory board only.  All final decisions are made by the Principal of Ascension School.  It is beyond the mission and authority of the Board to make any final decisions or take any action other than to bring suggestions to the Principal.

Responsibilities of P-TAB

Some of the responsibilities of this board include: organizing Ascension School community events, open houses, and other events; introducing new student activities, working with parents to find solutions to common community concerns; non-academic communications with the parent body and school community; and a host of other Ascension School community related activities.

QUARTERLY MEETINGS

The Parent-Teacher Advisory Board (P-TAB) holds quarterly school wide meetings to report on the multiple programs and initiatives going on at Ascension and to provide a space in which parents’ concerns and suggestions for improving our school can be voiced.  It is where issues dealing with safety, equality, acceptance of others, community building, volunteering and any other non-academic concern can be openly discussed.  The first school-wide quarterly meeting of academic year 2011-2012 will be held this winter. The date will be announced shortly.

Parent Participation Policy

Ascension’s Parent Participation Policy requires all families to earn 10 participation points each school year (effective Wed. Sept. 8, 2010).  As outlined in the policy itself, there are a number of ways to reach your goal.  P-TAB has been asked to track participation.  Please download the FAQ on this process as well as the point allocation form which is crucial to the new system.  If you have any questions or would like an update on your account, please email Joanne Hudson at ascensionclass2011@gmail.com.
