This week continued our study on “Plants” and the children focused on what plants need and where to find them. We concentrated on the vocabulary words: garden, gardener, and greenhouse. As a whole group we planted cat grass, reviewed the process of germination, and discussed what plants need to grow and survive. After reading the story "The Carrot Seed" by Ruth Krass, each student planted their own carrot seed plant and began to record their observations about their plant in their own gardening book. During centers the children were encouraged to explore characteristics and properties of different seeds, build gardens or greenhouses with blocks, and create patterns with beans.
In our Building Blocks curriculum we focused on using shapes to compose pictures and puzzles.
